Dear Joseph:
A copy of your e-mail
concerning skateboarding parks in Miami-Dade County was
forwarded to this office for review and response.
As you may be aware,
Miami-Dade County Park and Recreation Department developed
its first skate park at Amelia Earhart Park, located at
401 East 65 Street. The Skate Park, dedicated on November
10, 2001, features 20,000 square feet of aggressive street
course with ramps and grind rails. The park supports
inline skaters and skateboarders of all ages and
abilities. In addition to the aggressive skating area, the
park offers a track for practice skating, speed skating
and cones skating. In about two years, the Skate Park will
be relocated to the new sports complex at Amelia Earhart
Park. At that time, additional ramps and rails will be
added, the park will have lighting for night skating and a
permanent skate park building. The Skate Park at Amelia
will temporarily be closed from February 20 to March 6,
2002 for the upcoming Hialeah Spring Festival.
The Department is committed
to providing quality accessible skating facilities
throughout the County. Pending available funding, we
currently have plans for five (5) additional skate parks.
Part of the planning for these parks will involve citizen
input. Please provide us with your address so that you can
be included in the planning and development of these
facilities.
For additional information
on the Department's skate park plans, check out our skate
park web site at

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. If
you have any questions please contact Jordan Bess the
skate park project manager at 305-755-7997. I hope to see
you skating at Amelia Earhart Skate Park.
Sincerely,
Vivian Donnell Rodriguez
