February is Black History Month!
We celebrate freedom, diversity and the achievements of African-Americans!

We asked the leaders of Miami-Dade County what Black History Month means to them. Here is what they had to say:

"Black history should be taught 12 months, not just one."
Commissioner Betty Ferguson, District 1

"Black History Month honors those who fought for what our great country stands for - freedom. This month we will recall the vision of the great Martin Luther King, Jr. and the courage of Rosa Lee Parks, who did much more than refuse to give up her seat on a bus. We will have a chance to revisit the lives of the remarkable people who have forever made their mark in the history of our nation."
Commissioner Jimmy Morales, District 7

"We are all different on the inside and the outside, and it is that very diversity that makes our world a wonderful place. And nowhere in the world is diversity more celebrated than in the United States of America."
Steve Shiver, County Manager
